About

Damir Jelušić (DMD,PhD) received his dental degree in 1995 after which he upgraded his knowledge with courses that earned him a certificate in dental implantology from the Branemark Center in 1999 and a certificate in periodontology in 2005. Afterwards, he completed his specialization in periodontology at the University Hospital Center Zagreb in 2007. Finally, in 2014 he earned his PhD title at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Zagreb on a research that focuses on biomaterials and their use in implantology.  He is a member of numerous national and international medical associations and institutions including the EAO, ICOI and HDDI.

For the past 20 years Dr.Jelušić has been pursuing diverse courses of professional specialization in the field of dental implantology. He has also actively contributed to numerous national and international educational programs and congresses, by lecturing in the field of dental implantology, implant prosthetic rehabilitation and bone regeneration. He acts as a speaker for several global companies and institutions. Dr.Jelušić’s private clinic, located in Opatija (Croatia), focuses on implantology and periodontology. Dr. Jelušić wrote several specialized and scientific articles in the field of dental implantology.

Lecture

Immediate implant placement: from a single tooth replacement to a  full-arch rehabilitation

Today’s Dental World revolves around implants; teeth are preserved, edentulous patients desire fixed solutions.  In such an environment GBR became a standard procedure in our dental offices. On the other hand, our patients’ most frequent wishes and requests is effectiveness. Is it possible to harmoniously combine the treatment of bone loss, the need for GBR and be effective with that?

Tooth extraction is an introduction to the world of dental implants for the patients. The most effective way to replace a tooth after an extraction is immediate implant placement. Unfortunately this well-known approach is still controversial; in literature this concept is divided between authors that declare it predictable and those which claim it to be an unpredictable technique. Looking from the patient’s and clinician’s side, this approach has many advantages such as saving time, being effective and bringing some biological advantages.

In this lecture, the biological principles of bone loss after tooth extraction will be discussed and presented as well as their consequences on our clinical approach. Where the limits of immediate implant placement are and what are the prerequisites for a safe and predictable implant placement in such an environment? Do we need bone substitutes, can we restore the tooth or an entire arch on implants placed in an extraction socket?  Through clinical cases, techniques and procedures such as how to get from a single tooth replacement to a full arch rehabilitation and how to get from anterior zone to posterior zone solutions, will be presented and discussed step by step.

Hands-on course

Immediate implant placement in the anterior and posterior zone

Purpose and main topics

During the hands-on course, every participant will practice immediate implant placement in different clinical situations.  The anterior zone will be treated with the help of a surgical guide which allows for the ideal prosthetic position of an implant. Immediate fabrication of a crown will be made allowing for preservation and creating an optimal emergence profile. In the posterior zone, a first molar socket, will be treated with a wide platform implant, ideally designed for such indications.

After implant placement in 3D position and proper grafting of the site, the final abutment will be placed (On-One Abutment) ensuring ideal healing of the soft tissue around the final abutment (mucointegration).   Each participant will be guided and assisted throughout the process of implant placement, 3D positioning and fabrication of a provisional crown in the aesthetic zone.
